Apparently, a lot of nostalgic Manresan alumni are looking for a copy of the lyrics of their alma mater’s old school hymn, Hymno dela Madre Fundadora, more commonly known as Clara Estrella. I managed to get one from a source which I had to fix and translate, thanks to Señora Gonzales for Spanish 2 (which I failed!).

I’ve been singing this song every Monday’s flag ceremony at our Hijas school (Colegio de las Hijas de Jesus, Iloilo City) but I never really remembered knowing the English translation. But now that I’ve known it through your post, I began to appreciate the charism, gift and the values of Mo.Candida that was inculcated in me. Looking forward to the canonization of Mo. Hi… i never knew the title of this spanish song but i remember the lyrics of this beautiful song (spanish translation) by heart way back when i was in grade 4 at Stella Maris Academy of Davao up to now. Our class was told by our CL teacher Sr. Normita to memorize the song and to sing it in front of the class in preparation for Mother Candida’s day. I just knew the title 3 weeks ago when i visited SMAD and i chanced upon seeing there my gr 4 CL teacher who also was just visiting the school! Then i’ve known it’s CLARA ESTRELLA …Thanks for posting the English translation, made me appreciate more the life and values of Mother Candida. By the way, i am 40 y.o. now.

Apparently this is another version of the same song. Probably this hymn exists with different varations in lyrics. It’s also a Nazareth School Hijas de Jesus ( Sampaloc, Manila) Anthem for Mother Candida. You wouldn’t be able to graduate if you don’t have this song by heart! Which is impossible, singing it every year on Mother Candida months. It’s a hymn that goes over and over your head. And even if you can’t speak Spanish, sing this song makes me feel bilingual. By the way, in my days, Manresa used to be our school Retreat House. Thanks for posting and bless you… And more power and blessings to the Hijas and Hijos de Jesus kids!
